Design Your Coin
- Royal Australian Mint
Ngunnawal Country (Canberra) - 2024
Every coin begins as an idea, a story pressed into metal no larger than a thumbprint.
Here, people step into the role of designer, shaping their own coin using forms drawn from Australian flora and fauna. Each choice reflects the craft of minting, how art, detail and meaning balance on a surface small enough to hold in your hand, yet made to last for generations.
Finished designs are minted into a shared gallery of coins, a shimmering field of imagination revealing the creativity behind every piece of currency.
Technology
Built with Flutter and Unity, the system connects a multitouch design app to a real-time renderer via MQTT, transforming each coin into a high-resolution projection. Two short throw projectors are blended and mapped using MadMapper and Spout texture sharing, creating a crisp, dynamic display that links creativity, technology and Australian iconography.
